PARIS (FRANCE) - 21/10/2007-28/10/2007 STATE-OF-THE-ART ANALYTICAL AND IMAGING TECHNIQUES IN PETROLOGY PROGRAM Day 1. Start Up - Introduction
- Presentation of participants and lecturers; Overview of the program; Building the European Research Area: a scientific career in Europe
- Presentation of posters by participants.
Day 2. Recent improvements in microscopy and micro-analysis: - Image analysis: techniques and application
- Raman and infra-red spectrometry: theory
- Practical session at the Raman spectrometer of the IPGP.
Day 3. Recent improvements in microscopy and micro-analysis: - Electron Back-Scattered Diffraction, and the fabric of polycrystalline rocks and materials
- Micro-imaging: acquisition - (Download teaching material)
- Practical session at the CAMPARIS microanalysis centre (MEB and electron microprobe).
Day 4. - Transmission Electron Microscopy: theory
- Practical session.
Day 5. Techniques linked to the synchrotron: - X-ray micro-fluorescence
- X-ray micro-Absorption
- X-ray micro-diffraction.
Day 6. - Visit to the SOLEIL synchrotron based in Orsay;
- Visit to the proton probe of the Musée du Louvre.
Day 7. - Visit to the nano-SIMS of the Musée National d'Histoire Naturelle;
- Visit to the laboratories of the Cameca company, the leading manufacturer of electron and ion microprobes.
Day 8. Techniques for in-situ characterisation of isotope and trace elements: - Secondary Ion Mass Spectrometry;
- Laser-ablation ICP-MS;
- Nano-SIMS.
Day 9. Open Discussion Day: - Recent techniques, and their applications to petrology and material sciences; case studies presented by the participants.
