EXPERIMENTAL PETROLOGY AND ROCK DEFORMATION

Deadline for application: 31 August, 2010

We invite applications from PhD students (Master students and post-docs will be considered if places are not filled by PhD) to the EURISPET Seminar on "Experimental Petrology and Rock Deformation".

PERIOD: November 20 (arrival) – November 27, 2010 (departure).
VENUE: Earth Science Department, ETH (Swiss Federal Institute of Technology), Zurich (www.erdw.ethz.ch)
PARTICIPANTS: The School is limited to 35 participants supported by the EC (30 Early Stage Researchers – up to 4 years research activity including PhD –, and 5 Experienced Researchers – up to 10 years research experience), with the possibility of other 5 participants attending on a self-funded basis. The participants may come from any country worldwide, but a few conditions exist to be eligible (see “eligibility” on http://www.eurispet.eu). In addition, selection of participants will consider criteria of gender balance, regional balance, quality of past research, student status (with preference for PhD, post-doc) and knowledge of English.

The Seminar will include a broad range of experimental methods covering the entire pressure-temperature space of our planet and their applications in Earth Sciences including phase transitions and phase equilibria, experimental geochemistry, experimental rock deformation, thermodynamic, kinetic, rheologic and elastic properties of Earth materials (solids, liquids, glasses, fluids) as well as spectroscopic methods. A detailed program will be posted at http://www.eurispet.eu.

PRELIMINARY LIST OF LECTURERS: Luca CARICCHI (Bristol, UK), Sumit CHAKRABORTY (Bochum, Germany), Don B. DINGWELL (Munich, Germany), Dan FROST (Bayreuth, Germany), Fabrice GAILLARD (Orléans, France), Marc M.
