Program: The School consists of:
  • One day for student presentations to enable participants to present and discuss their own research
  • 5 days of formal lectures with world-known experts
  • One day of practical sessions in the laboratory (petrography, microthermometric calculations, heating and cooling experiments, Raman, etc.)
  • Two days of excursions to the most important xenolith-bearing alkali basaltic outcrops of the Pannonian Basin: 1 day in Nógrád-Gömör (North Hungary) and 1 day in Bakony-Balaton Highland (central Hungary)
  • One day on the Building the European Research Area: a scientific career in Europe.

Topics covered in the Seminar include: Introduction to subduction, orogenesis and collapse; Microstructure and textural features of granulite xenoliths; Partial melting and metasomatic events in the upper mantle; Fluid, silicate and sulfide inclusions in the lithospheric mantle; Deep seismics and seismology, deep lithospheric geophysical model; Deformation analyses in mantle xenoliths.
