CANBERRA 2008 ISOTOPES APPLIED TO PETROLOGICAL PROBLEMS The Australian National University, Canberra (Australia), January 31-February 9, 2008 Download larger size image Program: The School consists of: One day for student presentations to enable partecipants to present and discuss their own research; Four days of formal lectures with world-known experts; One day of practical sessions in the laboratory (ion microprobe, MC-ICPMS, chemical labs and TIMS); Two days of excursion to the Cooma contact aureole and the granites of the South Coast; One day on the European research area and its collaboration with extra-European countries such as Australia.
Topics covered in the Seminar include: Introduction to isotopic systems, isotopic tracers, stable isotopes in granulites and high-pressure rocks, Pb-Pb in basalts, Hf isotopic evolution in mantle and crust, introduction to U-Pb geochronology and its application to high grade rocks, U-Pb and Hf isotopes in zircon to trace crustal growth, geochronology by Sm-Nd and Lu-Hf and its application to high grade rocks, geochronology by Ar-Ar and applications to tectonics.
